The book is a little too on the nose for my liking. It started off well enough, but the last page felt completely unnecessary. It could have been food for thought in a blurb somewhere, if it had to be included.
There can be so many variations to this story arc, and those questions unfortunately paint a rather sorry picture. I also like books where there is room for the question to emerge, and there would be plenty from this one, for sure.
One can actually feel how much it hurts to be left out or ignored through the way the art and the story work together.
Honestly, it’s not just for children; adults should read this too. It makes you realize how even a tiny, thoughtless comment or action can really stay with someone and hurt their feelings.
Such a sweet, important book that everyone should have on their shelf!
