'There was once a mountain made of bare stone...' So begins the story of The Mountain that loved a Bird. The mountain stands cold and alone until one day, a small bird appears and changes its life.
This well-loved story by Alice McLerran has been shared in readings, tellings, performances and puppetry all over the world; it draws from universal truths that go beyond boundaries of language and culture. Since it was first published in 1985, it has been published in a number of languages using the original illustrations by Eric Carle. A 1989 Russian version had new illustrations, and an Urdu edition published in Pakistan in 2003, used illustrations by a Pakistani artist.
Tulika now offers this book with new illustrations by Stephen Aitken-art of such beauty and eloquence that the author herself hopes it can be used in future editions of the story, everywhere.
